One of the pirates from work takes this to make a little extra cash. So I tagged along one day (for free- WIN!) and had a tour round the museums and Grant Park and Soldiers field.
The art installation you see here is one about Chicago and how it is a meeting place for all kinds of people. They have no arms or heads as the artist believes these are the parts of our anatomy which lies…. think of that what you will. Deliberately not treated so that it is constantly eroded over time…..? Interesting! But still cool.
Kingston Mines. A famous jazz bar. Incredible atmosphere. Absolutely loved it.
Also been to the Green Mill, which was Alcopone’s favourite bar. Very different atmosphere. Went one night to watch some Jazz (turned out to be progressive crap!) and we were told on entrance that there is no talking during the music. Although we went back next thursday for a Swing dancing night, which was so much more fun.
Love free stuff. So me and Rebecca headed over to check it out. Need to go back and take some more snaps, sorry about that folks. Pretty good for a free zoo I must admit, plenty to go see.
Not best pleased with the big cat section. They were all lined up in tiny cages inside, looking so unbelievably bored and depressed. Then we read a piece saying they live longer lives in captivity!! Poor things. And the pictures of your Tiger here. Man he was an angry man!
So spent the daytime at Grant Park next to us playing a bit of baseball. Fantastic games. Perfect numbers. Great weather. It was grand. A few confusing rules in baseball- like sometimes you tag the base with the ball and sometimes the person (depending on whether they are forced to run or not).
Then in the evening went to watch the Chicago Cubs beat the Chicago Sox @ Cellular Field (sox). Atmosphere was great….. the game, well its not cricket is it gentlemen!
Then finished the day by going over to Ian’s flat, one of the pirates, just south of our apartments to sit in his rooftop jacuzzi, drink beer and play high school games.
We trekked to find what was voted The Best Beef sandwich in the US and this is what we found. It was clear instantly that the look of the sandwich had no part to play in this title.
It tasted better than it looked, which doesnt a huge amount I admit, as it looks like its already been digested once already!! It was very greasy and spicy.
I’ll see if I can get hold of the video of us trying it, which is quite funny.
After we saw Mario’s lemonade opposite, the perfect place to cleanse one’s palate. I got a watermelon slush puppy. My God it was good!
Went to the top of the Hancock Building yesterday to enjoy a very good Long Island Ice Tea. Not as tall as the Willis Tower, but you get a great view of the city (with your cocktail!)
Great view at night with all the lights, although not good enough for photos as the mist was in and out…. oh well, just have to go again wont we!! :-)
Show is going really well at the mo; getting some great audiences in. And got re-inspired again hearing that a great acting teacher was in to see the show. Her name was Paola Coletto, a clown expert. Met her after the show and she was so nice. Said if I needed any help or info about Chicago I can email her anytime.
Got a note yesterday saying Im getting to muscly for John. Ooop! I suppose thats better than the ‘your getting to porky’ note. Shame, I was enjoying working out. This may mean I cant go climbing very often either….! Agh!!!!
Gorgeous weather, football. Tainted ever so slightly by the anti-fun Brigade on his Segway. We were told to stop juggling because it distracted from the music!!!! What on earth?
I must admit, the Coppers here are a bit power happy compared to home. Mad!
